The Milwaukee Homeschoolers Group is a group for homeschooling and unschooling families in Milwaukee and the surrounding areas. We are based in Milwaukee city and our events center in the city and county of Milwaukee, but members from all over the metro area are welcome to join. Our goal as a group is to build community by connecting with others (both children and parents!) and to explore our environment through relaxed free play and adventuring.

Events are offered multiple times each week at a variety of dates and times in a variety of locations. Some of our recent activities include:

  • Learning from Revolutionary War reenactors at Old Falls Village Park

  • Group bike rides on the Oak Leaf Trail, the Hank Aaron State Trail and over the Hoan Bridge with UPAF Ride for the Arts

  • Road trip to see the 2024 Solar eclipse in totality in Indiana

  • Cleaning up trash with the Milwaukee Riverkeepers on Earth Day

  • Camping trips at Kohler-Andrae State Park, Kettle Moraine State Park and Devil’s Lake State Park

  • Attending performances at the Marcus Center (including Black Violin, Hiplet Ballerinas, Cirque Mechanics and so many more!), the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, First Stage theater, the Milwaukee Ballet and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

  • Enjoying the revitalized playgrounds and splash pads of the MKE Plays initiative

  • Checking out public art displays like Sculpture Milwaukee, the Holiday Lights Festival, Evanescent, Black Cat Alley

  • Visiting all three Urban Ecology Center sites in all different seasons

  • Getting around on public transit including MCTS buses and the Hop

  • Interacting with veterans, checking out war memorbilia and participating in a flag burning ceremony at the War Memorial Center

  • Catching tadpoles and frogs at Kletszch Park

  • Regular visits to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World, the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum, the Milwaukee Zoo, the Mitchell Park Domes and Boerner Botanical Gardens

  • Catching the Tosa Tonight concerts in Hart Park, Tunes@Noon concerts at 411 E Wisconsin, Heart(beats) in the City concerts at Red Arrow Park and the MKE Night Market

  • Snuggling baby goats at the Milwaukee Vincent School of Agricultural Sciences

  • Road tripping to Green Bay to visit Titletown, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and Amusement Park, the Green Bay Botanical Gardens, and Tundra Lodge waterpark

  • Attending Summerfest, Pride Fest, Black Arts Fest, Bastille Days, Harbor Fest and many other summer festivals

  • Hiking at Seven Bridges, Lion’s Den Gorge, Wehr Nature Center, Schlitz Audubon, Havenwoods, Paradise Spring, Riveredge Nature Center, Mequon Nature Preserve and many other spots

  • Tooling along the Riverwalk and hitting up Pere Marquette Park, Cathedral Square and the Peck Pavilion, Zeidler Union Square and the Third Street Market Hall, pouring over the historical dates on the Riverwalk boards in the Third Ward, and taking in all the neat signs, art pieces and details along the way

  • Visiting the Lynden Sculpture Garden (especially the nature playground tucked in the back!)

  • Saying hi to the animals at the Retzer Nature Center after a hike and pond visit

  • Ice skating at Red Arrow Park, Lake Park, Liberty Heights Park and more

  • Exploring the intricacies of engineering at the MSOE STEM Lab

  • Touring unique art spots like the Grohmann Museum, Villa Terrace, the Warehouse Art museum, and the Charles Allis Museum

  • Touring all the amazing beaches in Milwaukee: Bradford, Doctor’s, Grant, Sheridan, Klode, Atwater, McKinley, Lake Vista, Schlitz Audubon and more!

  • Cheering on the Admirals and Brewers at games

  • Swimming at Schulz Aquatic center, Cool Waters, Brown Deer Pond, Pulaski pool and lots of local wading pools

  • Checking out the county’s amazing libraries and all the classes and events they have to offer

  • Grabbing a drink and enjoying the summer at the local beer gardens

  • Making handmade decorations for our sponsored tree in Cathedral Square at Christmas time, plus celebrating holidays like Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Election Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Easter and of course, Pi Day with parties, parades, activities and of course food!
